Global Citizenship Education (GCED)

WEB Indicator 471 measures the extent to which countries mainstream Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in their education systems.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

By 2030, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.

Current Indicators

The current global indicator for target 4.7 is 471: Extent to which i) global citizenship education and ii) education for sustainable development are mainstreamed in (a) national education policies; (b) curricula; (c) teacher education; and (d) student assessment.

2020 Indicator Approval

In 2020, the global indicator for target 4.7 was approved and defined as Extent to which i) global citizenship education and ii) education for sustainable development are mainstreamed in (a) national education policies; (b) curricula; (c) teacher education; and (d) student assessment.
